Round 1 - Match Report

The U-12B team got the league campaign off to a positive start by winning a potentially difficult encounter with our neighbours Kilbride. Playing attacking football from the start, Dunboyne went into a 6 point to 1 lead thanks to some good scoring from Laura Farrell and Rachel McDermott. However the margin could have been wider had it not been for some wild shooting by our forwards. The defence was on top at all times and in particular Niamh Farrell and Clodagh McCarthy. Dunboyne restricted Kilbride to 1 point in the first half. Dunboyne made some changes at the start of the second half and continued to pick off some good points. Kilbride piled on some pressure towards the end and Eimear Gorey and then Rachel McDermott who took turns in Goals for the last quarter pulled off some good saves. Kilbride scored a goal right at the end of the match to put some gloss on the scoreline, but in reality it was a convincing win for the away team where every single player played their part. Final score Dunboyne U-12B 0-11: Kilbride 1-2:

Team: Aoife Farrell, Eimear Gorey, Niamh Farrell, Clodagh McCarthy, Anna O'Dwyer, Roisin McGoldrick, Niamh McDermott (2 pts) Laura Farrell (3 pts) Rachel McDermott (5 pts) Alannah Egar, Orlaith Doran, Laura Furlong, Aoife Boylan (1 pt) Niamh Lineen

Round 2 - Match Report

Dunboyne Under 12B team won their second game out of two in Division 4. They comprehensively beat Royal Gaels B from start to finish. Playing 9 a side under the fair play rule Dunboyne raced into a 5-5 to 2-2 lead by half time. The mid field dominated possession and Niamh McDermott and in particular Roisin McGoldrick pick off some very good scores. Even though many changes were made to the team before and after half time Dunboyne continued to play good football and all forwards contributed to the scoreline including Amy Kavanagh and Alannah Eagar. The defence was troubled on occassion, however Orlaith Doran played solidly and got the team out of trouble a number of times. All in all it was a very good performace with the team clearly improving the more games they play. Final Score: Dunboyne U-12B 7-10, Royal GaelsB 4-2.

Team: Aoife Farrell, Anna O'Dwyer, Niamh Farrell, Laura Farrell, Roisin McGoldrick (2-1), Niamh McDermott(0-2) Rachel McDermott (4-3) Alannah Eagar (0-1) Amy Kavanagh (1-1), Niamh Lineen, Katie Curran (0-2) Orlaith Doran, Aoife Boylan, Clodagh McCarthy

Round 4 - Match Report

The Dunboyne U-12B team made it 3 wins out of 3 games with a victory over Navan O'Mahonys by a score of 4-7 to 1-5. While the scoreline may suggest an easy game it was anything but and was certainly our most serious test to date.  Scores were slow to come by in the first half with Dunboyne leading by 1-4 to 1-2 but for long periods in this half Navan dominated possession and but for slack finishing could have taken a good lead into the second half. After a half time pep talk from the manager the tide turned for the better and the defence, in particular Anna O'Dwyer, Captain Eimear Gorey, Niamh Farrell and Orlaith Doran restricted the away side to just 3 points. Laura Furlong played well in midfield with Rachel McDermott and Laura Farrell scoring well to put the game out of reach of the visitors.

Team: Aoife Farrell, Anna O'Dwyer, Eimear Gorey, Niamh Farrell, Orlaith Doran, Laura Furlong (0-1), Roisin McGoldrick(0-1), Niamh McDermott, Laura Farrell (2-0) Rachel McDermott (2-4) Alannah Eagar, Amy Kavanagh Aoife Boylan, Niamh Lineen (0-1) Clodagh McCarthy

Round 3 - Match Report

On Super Grand Slam Sunday, the U-12B team followed up a great comeback by their A counterparts to completely outclass Ratoath B to continue their winning run. From the throw in to the final whistle Dunboyne dominated despite losing players to injury and illness within 10 minutes of the game starting. On a day when the backs had little to do, our forwards heaped pressure on the opposition. When Ratoath did attack, Laura Furlong and Eimear Gorey were there to cover. Midfield was dominated by Dunboyne with Roisin McGoldrick definitely having her shooting boots on for the game, and Aoife Boylan in the forward line showing maturing beyond her age. Towards the end of the game our full back turned full forward Anna O'Dwyer scored a brillient goal to crown a fantastic day in which every single player on the pitch played a full part in a comprehensive victory.  Half time score Dunboyne 3-4 Ratoath 0-0.

Round 5 - Match Report

On Wednesday last the 19th May the U-12B team played their 5th and last league game hoping to make it a 100% record and consolidate their position on top of the Division 4 league table. Playing against a tall St Pats team who were attempting to make sure their long journey was not going to be a fruitless journey, our Captain on the day Aoife Farrell was quickly brought into action, not just once but on many occasions throughout the game pulling off save after save and keeping a lack lustre Dunboyne team in the game. St Pats had a number of tall players and in particular their number 7 played havoc on the Dunboyne team running at the Dunboyne defence on several occassions. A couple of goals from Rachel McDermott in the first half kept Dunboyne in the game with a half time score of St Pats. 3-2 Dunboyne 2-3. Dunboyne needed to tighten up all over the pitch in the second half if they were to be in with a chance of winning, as in the first half they were clearly lacking in fitness and agility that their opponents had. The second half started with another few goals for Dunboyne and for a while it looked as if we had the game in the bag. Niamh Lineen in at full forward for the second half look some great points to give us a bit of comfort. However St Pats came storming back and a goal a few minutes from time left 2 points in the difference. Dunboyne managed to hold out for a very tough fought victory against a team that no doubt our paths will cross soon again.

Final Score Dunboyne 5-7 St Pats 5-5

Team: Aoife Farrell, Orlaith Doran, Eimear Gorey, Niamh Farrell, Roisin McGoldrick, Niamh McDermott (0-1) Rachel McDermott(5-0) Laura Farrell (0-2) Alannah Egar, Amy Kavanagh, Laura Furlong, Aoife Boylan (0-1) Niamh Lineen (0-3) Clodagh McCarthy, Anna O'Dwyer

Semi Final - Match Report

Dunboyne u-12b team made the short trip to Dunshaughlin to take on Royal Gaels in the Division 4 Semi Final. Confidence was high particularily when we comprehensively beat them in the league earlier in the season, however at semi final stage, you can always expect a tough game and that it was. From the very start right to the end there was never more than a few points in the difference. Both teams started off with a few points each. It was nip and tuck. Once again for the umpteen time our reluctant star goal keeper Aoife Farrell pulled off some great saves and has become very confident in the goal area. The score at half time was 1-5 to 5 points in favour of Dunboyne. In the second half while there were a number of scoring opportunities both sets of defences were solid, and a special mention must go to Aoife Farrell again, Anna O'Dwyer and Orlaith Doran. Niamh McDermott at mid field went on some good solo runs and linked up well with both Rachel McDermott and Laura Farrell in the half forward line. Finally after what seemed like an eternity the full time whistle went and Dunboyne were the glorious victors with a score of 2-6 to 1-5

Team: Aoife Farrell, Eimear Gorey, Anna O'Dwyer, Niamh Farrell, Orlaith Doran, Niamh McDermott(0-1), Roisin McGoldrick, Laura Farrell (0-2) Rachel McDermott (2-2), Alannah Egar, Amy Kavanagh, Aoife Boylan, Niamh Lineen(0-1), Clodagh McCarthy, Laura Furlong

Cup Final - Match Report

Dunboyne U-112Bs' took to the field today in the long awaited County Division 4 final. In a gripping encounter the teams will have to meet again next Thursday after a trilling draw. Dunboyne won the toss when Captain Rachel McDermott choose to play the first half up hill and against a strong breeze. St Pats opened the scoring and but for some very errant shooting should have been well ahead at half time. However the score at half time stood St Pats 0-4 Dunboyne 0-2.

Playing in the second half with the wind, Dunboyne started well and soon the teams were level. Again when St Pats attacked the Dunboyne backs were equal to the cause and continually kept their forwards at bay. Dunboyne eventually went into a 2 point lead mainly as a result of some fouls on Niamh Lineen, close in, from which Rachel McDermott converted the frees.

In a game of two halfs, the second half having 7 minutes of injury time, despite there been no real injury delays, the real excitement started in the 31st minute of the game. St Pats got a free in the middle of the field and with it being quickly taken to their most dangerous player, number 5 Ciara McQuillan, she left our backs static and buried the ball in the back of the net. This left the opposition with a one point lead, not knowing how long more the referee was going to add on. From the resulting kick out by Aoife Farrell, Niamh McDermott picked up the ball inside her own half and with strong determination carried the ball the length of the pitch, despite being put under pressure by the St Pats backs, and ended up scoring a beautiful point from close range. At that stage and much to the relief of both teams the referee finally blew for full time with the final score of Dunboyne 0-8 St Pats 1-5.

With a game of such intensity it would be impossible to name players who stood out as everyone played their part in an entertaining yet heartstopping game.

Team: Aoife Farrell, Niamh Farrell, Eimear Gorey, Clodagh McCarthy, Orlaith Doran, Anna O'Dwyer, Niamh McDermott (0-1) Laura Farrell, Niamh Lineen(0-1) Rachel McDermott(0-5) Amy Kavanagh, Alannah Eagar, Aoife Boylan (0-1) Roisin McGoldrick, Laura Furlong, Katie Curran, Sarah Wall

Cup Final (Replay) - Match Report

The Dunboyne U-12B team finally came out on top in the replay of the Division 4 cup final. As with the original game and indeed the league game against St Pats this again was another close fought exciting, and heart stopping encounter. The game started with St Pats winning the toss and opting to play with the wind in the first half, and immediately came out of the blocks running with a quick goal from their danger girl Ciara McQuillan. St Pats were doing all of the running in the first half and were first to the ball at all times. They continued to press forward and at one stage goal keeper Aoife Farrell pulled off a brilliant save. On the odd occassion that Dunboyne did attack they made good use of their possession and Aoife Boylan and Niamh Lineen picked off some good points. Rachel McDermott scored a goal, and Dunboyne were unlucky not to have had another. The flow of the game changed shortly before half time with Substitute Sarah Wall came on and started snapping at the heels of the tall St Pats forward.Dunboyne were lucky to go to the break down 6 points with a score of 3-4 to 1-4.

The team knew they had to play much better in the second half if they were to win the cup and this time it was Dunboyne who came out of the blocks running. Very quickly the team had pulled back the shortfall to 1 point, again thanks to points scored by Niamh Lineen, Niamh McDermott and another goal scored by Rachel McDermott, who again was unlucky to see another rasping shot come off the corner of crossbar and goal post. The real turning point of the game came about midway thru the second half when Sarah Wall took possession of the ball round mid field and kicked a high speculative lob into the St Pats penalty area, deceiving everyone to end up in the back of the net. This was the first time Dunboyne had taken the lead in the game, and despite attempts by St Pats to attack, the dominant Dunboyne backs kept them scoreless in the second half. Finally after a couple of more points had given us a 4 point lead the referee blew up for full time and the celebrations could begin. A fantastic performance by the full panel, not least on the day two players who deserved special praise, Sarah Wall and Niamh Lineen, two of the five u-10 players on our panel all of whom continually showed maturity beyond their age, in being able to mix it with the best at u-12 grade. Full time score Dunboyne 3-8 St Pats 3-4
